“Once there has been illumination, beware the temptation to retreat from a good thing. If it was right when you prayed about it and trusted it and lived for it, it is right now.”  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, BYU Devotional, “Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence.” 2 Mar. 1999

“My opinion on this? Remember what you know already. Remember what God has already told you. This isn't the first time nor the last time that a church policy, local or general, will go against what the Holy Ghost tells you is true. There is one true source of truth.
I am a faithful member of, I serve in, I love, and am grateful for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, if I were to base what I believe is true on what a policy says, I'd be all over the place. Policies change. I've lived long enough to have seen many policies created and removed and changed and adjusted. Don't put faith in policy. Put faith in the doctrine that comes from Jesus Christ. This is the ONLY sure path. Helaman 5:12. The foundation is Jesus Christ...not even His church is a sure-enough foundation, and if we build on ANYTHING but Him, we will fall.
”I remain and will remain an active, believing, faithful, temple worthy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My faith will not be shaken by a new church policy nor the opinions of a senior leader of the church, etc., though I've had my share of feeling shaken and I realize it can be very hard. But let's remember that those who write these policies are people. I myself serve in a church leadership position, and I am far from perfect, and the things I've done and said are in no way perfect. Only when speaking by the power of the Holy Ghost in my stewardship are my words truly representative of the will of God - and that, for the audience and the time they're spoken. Ongoing revelation is critical.
Another perspective is this: this is guidance for the *entire* church. Worldwide. What God would say to the entire church may very well be different than what He'd say to you, one on one. Take the policy, consider it carefully, pray about it, ask God what He would have you do. Ask for his peace and clarity on this, and follow what He tells you to do - and don't judge anyone else who got different revelation on the same matter.”
